Default Who is going to win comp national title

I know it is comp, but with 4 guys tied for the lead it could get interesting. Who can tell us how this works out right now with tie breakers and what has to happen for each to win. Its going be a long winter. Tom

Interesting Rampy is only one entered at Pomona. He can't earn any more points. Can't believe Smiley, Richardson and Vincent wont be in Pomona. They all might be running Vegas this weekend.

4 way tie for 1st, Shaun has run the fewest races and can add to his total by going 4 rounds at Vegas this weekend. Could be the 1st World Champ from Omaha since Marlin Bogner in 1980.

Looks like Scotty Richardson can improve on a 52 Nat, David Rampy can improve on a 52 Div, Clark Smiley can improve on a 74 Nat and 52 Div and Shaun Vincent can improve on a 52 Nat and 41 Div race. Think this is right. Just depends on who wants to travel. Don't know the tiebreakers but someone is likely to race to try to improve on the totals.

Scotty is not going, does not have a car to race. In comp you are only allowed to enter in 2 classes per year . He raced in D/EA and I/AA and crashed the car. (there is a top notch east coast based rental D/EA out there but at $20k a race or higher, a little steep)

Rampy can only claim divisional, if over 16 cars he needs to win 3 rounds to improve. (semifinals or better)

Shaun Vincent needs 2 round wins at divisional to improve, he says he is not going to Pomona because of work commitments

Smiley says he is not going but you never know.

Patterson has a shot at moving up and has a fast car, lost final at Vegas 2 nats

A couple other players could move up but would almost have to win next 2 races

And if you want to figure out tie breaker here are the rules

From the NHRA website:

NHRA LUCAS OIL POINTS TIE-BREAKER METHODS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TIE-BREAKERS
If a tie exists (for any position) at the conclusion of the NHRA Lucas Oil National Championship series, it shall be resolved as follows. If, after step one is followed a tie still remains, additional steps are to be followed until tie is broken.
1. Review full season of scored National and scored Division event racing between tied drivers (both drivers must have received points at events being compared). Driver with most “head to head” victories wins tie.
2. Review full season of scored National and scored Division events (scored events are events at which driver received points). Driver with most rounds won wins tie.
3. Calculate average qualifying positions from scored National and scored Division events. Qualifying position to be rounded to one decimal point – for example, a driver qualifying 8, 15, and 9 would have a 10.7 average. Driver with the lowest average qualifying position wins tie.
4. Calculate average qualifying elapsed-times from scored National and scored Division events. Driver with the quickest average qualifying elapsed-time wins tie (Comp, SS, Stock is furthest under their class index – Super category qualifying ET’s under class index are voided).

my understanding in Comp is you can enter mutiple classes per year however you can only hit the index in 2 classes--- once that happens you are then
restricted to only those 2 classes you hit the index in until the next season

After first round it looks like Rampy got a single when Skillman was a no show, Vincent won but used up 7 hun on his index, Patterson from the ladder looked like a no show also. Looks like Vincent will start adding to his total if he wins 2nd round, Rampy has get by a couple of more rounds to add to his. Tom
