Has anyone had a chance to see the Pure Stock Drags or the FAST (Factory Appearing Stock Tire) group run? What do you think of this style of muscle car racing?
Here's a link to a story I did with lots of pictures. http://classracer.com/magazine/?p=5493

I've seen them run at US-131. Pretty cool to see and you see the full gamut from real stock muscle cars that run 13-15 seconds to "stock-appearing" cars that run in the tens. The one thing that I thought was kind of crazy was the idea of running low tens @ 130 MPH on a stock, bias ply tire that was referred to as "shaved" or simply, a bald tire. There were only a couple of cars running 10-11 second E.T's and I guarantee that they had every bit of the "investment" of a competitive stock or super stock car. Although they have stock intake and exhaust manifolds, big rollers, 500+ cubes and 14-15:1 compression are the norm.

the bunch that runs at Mid-Michigan in September are incredible machines to see - COMPLETE in EVERY way - exhaust, air cleaners, carpet, windshield washer bags, etc.
Stude's with Paxton S/C, Hemi road runners, 396 powered Nova, and immaculate Pontiac "judges" - about 150 cars at the event Rich rinke brought his COPO's one year as exhibition I did their heavy tech a couple of years, even pumped Tom Hoover's B body - very pretty try purestockdrags.com Don Braun NHRA D-3 team |
