older roller lifters

I bought a set of roller lifters that are still in motor or i would post a pic,these lifters have a removable bar that holds lifter together bar slides through slots in lifter at top and prevent from turning in lifter bore,these things i got in mid 80,s curious what brand they are and if any one is familiar with these,they look scary but in a small blk chevy going through traps at 8,100 r p m shifting at 7,800 also very light .

I ran em for years in the 80's. They are fine as long as you watch the lift of your lobe. They will bind if the lift exceeds the cross bar travel limit. We still use them in some applications. Otherwise, no worries. Ours were Crane.

they sound like the crane lifters i used in the 80's. the springs that were used in the lifters to position the tie bars in the lifters would push the lifters away from the cam & they would not touch the base circle of the cam &i felt that was why i had a few failures on even low use lifters until i installed the crane rev kit springs& plates to keep the rollers in constant contact with the lobes..i think the axle shafts were hollow that failed.

Yes, I had a rev kit attached.

Hi all,

I used those lifters back in the day..........

The reason was that after taking off the rocker arms and pushrods the cam could be slid out of the engine without removing the intake.....

Made for some pretty quick cam changes at the track while testing....

I had a set, my first set, of many. They were Crane roller lifters with needle bearings. I ran a rev kit also. They failed in my application. The slot that holds the roller spread apart after time and you I had to pry them out of the lifter holes. The needle bearings failed also and I felt the lifters were sub par.
I would never use any "used solid roller lifters."
