The past cpl years I've been hearing these nasty rumors about if a combination runs to far under the index in Stock Eliminator then you are going to get horsepower or if that combination with say 10 cars average I think .85 under then that combination is getting horsepower,,,for what??
Guys talk about running 5 quarts of oil adding at least 100 lbs and other things to slow their cars down. So if I want to go faster and buy a new engine say,,, $25,000 and redo my suspension, and God knows it needs it,and upgrade my transmission and converter,to go faster, unless I'm at Indy or a National Open, where you can run as fast as you want, then I would need to slow the car down after I just spent tens of thousands of dollars to go faster. I don't get but I do!! We bought the new Super C contemplating on doing just that, going fast so we could run at Indy but for what?? I can't cut a damn light, consistently to go rounds. There needs to be a rule change on going fast for any combination.NHRA Let the guys go for it. If someone is to far under randomly tear them down. |

There is no rule about going as fast as you want to go. You just have to be willing to pay the price if you choose to run real fast, My belief is that if you can run faster than 1.20 under then your combo is under factored and needs to be adjusted. This is how the AHFS is supposed to work. Its not a perfect system because most racers are doing their best to protect their combo. Not a bad thing but just the way it is. I also believe that a 1.20 under run should be treated just like a record run and the car should be torn down and inspected to make sure that it is 100% compliant with the rule book before the factor on that combo is hit.

James and Billy,,for the next year or 2 no new engines. If I could learn how to drive again definitely a new Pro build engine would be 1st priority. But its kinda sad many guys put lots of time and $$$ into their combination and years of testing to be penalized for their long hard work. I still saw,,Let the guys run,,if someone is 1.40 plus under then check them out. We all know most combo's there are guys that can run 1.20 under.

Mike I believe if your a performance type of person and you really want to go fast and you can't go 1.20 you need to work on your stuff. And yes spend some money. I hope no one told you Stock and Super Stock is a cheap class to run. It can be but your not going to realize the true performance of your combo. With all the enhancements we have had over the last 15 years I don't think there are many combo's that can't achieve that performance. I bought a 74 Corvette from a nice guy in Tn about 6 years ago. When we picked it up he told us that it was a tough combo with the HP rating and didn't think it was a good car any more for the class. A year and a half later we were going 10.70's in G/SA. Now I have a 1970 Camaro. Bought from another real nice guy. He bought motors from several different builders including Armstrong and Ficcaci . The fastest that I have seen him run was low 10.20's in great air. Here a year and a half later I was running 10.0's this past weekend in the heat with still more left. My point again there is always more to get out of your car. And by the way it still has the motor in it that as when I bought it from him. Yes the best Brian Thilburg has freshened it up for me.
MY brother and I have preached to our friends for years. Find 10 things that only give you a .01 and you now have a tenth. Get lucky on some of those ten things and you could have a lot more. On the 3 hr ride home from the track this weekend all I could think about all the way home were those 10 things I need to do to the car. BP Last edited by B Parker; 07-30-2019 at 12:30 PM. |

Mike I agree with Indy not all will show everything they have until they have to. Case in point last year Jammin Jerry goes 10.22 in qualifying at 2100 ft of air. In the 6th round with 3900 ft of air he goes 10.18 heads up for the win. BP

Mike and Tim if going 120 was so easy EVERYONE WOULD Do It.
Just to get my car 1 second under took a few years a bunch of$$$ and time testing Like the Wise Barry Parker said. Find 10 things that pick you up a little and BAM your faster. Now most people run their cars as fast as it will go barely over minimum weight. When you do the hard work and development then you have a FAST car. Then you have to slow it down weight extra oil timing pushed back. Only a fool would constantly go all out 1 second under with their combo now you wasted your $$$$$
