How about the stock heads make one natural class but the aftermarket headed combos change the natural class. Oh and add in the combos that give you 2 carb options and 2 different hp factors then add in aftermarket heads! 6 different combos out of one original combo! |

Dave I don’t think the 427/445 69 Camaro can run AA/SA with the shipping weight of 3096. Divide 3096 by 445= 6.96 p/w. The natural imaginary class is two class below the 7.50 to 7.99 weight break. Adding 222.5 lbs to the shipping weight of 3096 would be 3318.5 lbs. Divide 3318.5 by 445hp = 7.457 p/w, the car would still not be in 7.50 to 7.99 window.
I believe class cars can move up or down one class from the natural class provided there’s a class for it to fit in. That’s how I read the rule book, I could be wrong. Uncle Al was wise beyond his years. |

Did this go away when the AA/BB/CC classes were used in the interim roughly 10 years ago, when new weight classes were introduced. I have always heard of a car getting "outfactored" from stock eliminator but never seen it. BUT where is it written that there is a lower threshold to still be able to run stock? If there is no lower threshold, then any combo with a class factor lower than 7.50 would be restricted to AA only, and adhering to the 7.50 weight calculation factor.

Austin in the rule book in the lower classes of V and W it's XX.00 or more.
No statement for the top class XX.00 or less. Might be able to make engine 427/425. If we have to go by the AMA Sheets, what choice do we have; its their, NHRA, Ball, Bat, and Glove Last edited by Larry Hill; 02-08-2022 at 10:29 AM. |

The more interesting one to me...someone do the math on the 1969, 396/375 alum head combo. Previously the class factor was 8.16, a natural A car, and the new factor says 8.00......HOWEVER..... New shipping weight 3238 divided by 405 hp is 7.99506.... So what is the natural class for a 396/375 alum head, is it AA or A? Do you round it up or not? As the Stocker world turns....

The 1969 Camaro 396/375 Alum combo is a natural A. NHRA rounds up at .xx5, and down at .xx4. One pound less and this combo would be a Natural AA.
