If you visited Summit Motorsports Park last week you would have seen a massive hole 125 feet long and 4 feet deep halfway down the track!
Decades ago, when the track was built, there was a small stream that meandered across the property and crossed the track at the 660 foot spot. The stream was filled in with dirt, but the track was never completely flat and the only solution to do it right "the Bader way" was to dig it out and start over. The crew worked a grueling straight 36-hour shift to dig out the old fill dirt, pack in fresh rock, and pave over the smooth the track. And that's not all. With a strong base the Baders were determined to give racers a glass-smooth surface so fans get the best show possible, and the track was paved with a high-tech polymer-infused surface. Then it was leveled with a GPS system that uses readings from all 24 American and 11 Russian GLONASS GPS satellites to measure the surface height to a tolerance of less than 4 millimeters! Come see the new track at the B'laster Cavalcade of Stars Presented by Budweiser, May 16-18. R

From the Norwalk website...
Jill Canuso will be making her debut here in the “Queen of Diamonds” jet powered dragster along the jet powered dragsters of Elaine Larson, Ernie Bogue, and Dick Rosberg. Two women face off against two men to see who will walk away with the title for the weekend. To celebrate that 300-mile per hour challenge, all females will be admitted to Summit Motorsports Park for free on Saturday, May 17. 'All females will be admitted free on Saturday May 17,'....a nice bit of marketing. |

" I dunno 4 millimeters seems like an awful lot LOL .. For those down south a millimeter is about 40 thou. so the track is within 160 thou.. "
For you cunuck's, that more than you can show off at a whorehouse, so you're impressed ! I would think the Baders would give a class A effort for about anything. Pothole, I am just kidding with you there.....

"All females admitted free on Saturday May 17" That may be great marketing,,,but its certainly nothing new. In the 70s Seattle International Raceway was famous for its annual "Fox Hunt". This was in the days when the stands would fill for the most part anyway, but on this day the place would go nuts! All women in for free,, a rock band would show up in the evening, some guy on a motorcycle would jump over old cars, and besides the regular racers there would be jet cars or some booked in match races. As the day wore on and the beer flowed and that "funny smelling" stuff filled the air, the party got wilder. We saw alot of "crowd management" going on and I don't need to tell you there was NO shortage of "foxes" all over the place.
I know many other tracks had similar programs, not just the west coast ones. So go ahead to this one and have a ball,,,,dang I wish I was 25 again! Danny Durham |
