It depends on what division you are in. I was told no this year and this was with over a month before the race. I was not the only one wanting to set a record.

My advice is to contact the division office prior to the race. Thats what we did when setting the record in 2019. Then there are no surprises.

I was pitted next to someone last weekend with a bad fast car wanting to set a record and he was told it was not happening. It was cool to see the circled R on the windows, and someone wanting to set a record. It is not all that common to see anymore. I give credit to anyone that wants to set a record. Its a lot of work, and no recognition.

I agree, but I always got a lot of "Self Satisfaction" for all the hours putting the car and engine together and testing...Test the car and pull the engine and go back to the dyno.. Pull the heads and go to the flow bench and then put it all back together...

Same here Adger, except I 've never had a dyno to use other than the race track. One way - 200 miles. I probably could have bought a dyno for all the travel money I spent. Rick and I tore down five times one year, and they weren't all for records. Some were just "necessary", ya' know what I mean? But as you said, the "satisfaction" made it worthwhile.

Adger and Jerry, I completely agree with the personal satisfaction as we race in a performance based class. If you do not try different things to see what helped or did not, Stock and SS is not for you. Too bad tech has relaxed to the point of being nonexistent. For all of us in D5, I really miss Wayne Lewis and our conversations.

One of my favorite moments last year was setting the SS/KA record , for me it was total bucket list thing , I knew it wasn't the fastest pass in my class but I am in the top ten and while my uncle who builds my engines is still able to at almost 80 I figured he would get a kick out of it which he did ..he proudly displays his certificate and so do I .

Back when I first started racing they set records at every divisional and national open race. There would be a designated staging lane for the people attempting to set records. Put a circled "R" on your widow and go for it. You could make as many passes as you could from the record lane. This was during time runs and qualifying only. I set the record in my car many years ago twice. Once I broke my own record. Different times back then. The record in my class has been at a minimum for as long as I can remember. I would not waste my time to tear down to set a record now. Plenty of cars way faster than mine in my class.
