That is super cool, but $70K for a Stocker? And that's before the racer rips into it and 'tweaks' it.

Only weak link will be if only ford uses the supercharged version in their car. Once a Power adder is used the factoring possibilities become impossible. I suggest similar sized Carb or injected motors so the power to wt and the wt to cubic inchs are similar in all brands...OR ELSE we will see the same daily changes to the cars that was a problem in the original times of heads up factory cars. Each company could use it to showcase their 400 + cube crate motors.....

Original post says 400 HP supercharged 5.4L. Smaller cams wont take away 100 HP from a supercharged engine. Not when comparing a passenger car cam (Shelby GT500) vs. an emmissions exempt cam (Cobra Jet drag-pak) at least.
Dick, NHRA has stated in the past that supercharged engines must retain OEM pulley ratio's in Stock. Not that it's the only way to regulate boost but that's what they look for. But for some reason they see no reason to regulate boost on turbo cars in Stock.
Ford sells mant supercharged engines to the public. I say let them race what they sell!

Thumbs up Re: 2008 Mustang Cobra Jet announced

I agree with you premise of race what you sell. I just hope they all sell a supercharged motor. If AHFS cannot figure Injected versus Carb for 5 years Imagine 'Charged versus non versus Turbo in a class intended to "showcase" current models.

I agree. I think both of us would take a supercharged 5.4L any day over a 392 HEMI with no supercharger. But I'm with 1664SSJA, my economy doesnt support a $100K Stocker anyways!

100,000 dollar Stocker
I'd say the Economy is ready for that.
The thing is, they *would* sell...to collectors. This GM guy will have to give FoMoCo credit, they've hit a home run with the nostalgia/collector folks in regards to their Mustangs...and ChryCo has followed suit with their Challenger & S/S upgrade...and GM is on the sidelines licking their wounds.

Anyway, unless the NHRA does it like the SCCA did with Corvairs back in the early-mid '60s and make you have a certain ID tag from a manafacturer to run in a certain class (Yenko Sportscars, Inc & D/Production), then the racers are simply gonna start with the el-cheapo base Mustangs and go from there...

I guess us GM guys will have to hang our hats on the Corvette...which ain't such a bad thing, I guess!

Who says you have to have an original to race the class? How many Hemi and Thunderbolt cars are originals? WE all know you could build a clone a lot cheaper than $100,000. and no one cares if it is an original anyway.

Angry Re: 2008 Mustang Cobra Jet announced

C'mon guys, they're not even built yet and some are complaining about factoring/cost/etc??

And ya wonder why nobody wants to listen to a sportsman racer bitch?

Let them build them, somebody will buy them, collectors or not who cares, the main point is they will be in the guide.
Yes so ANYBODY can "buy a base mustang" and build one. Nobody has ever bought/built a base model car and swapped parts to get in a class?

%$#@!!
