Cuz bracket racing is too much like work. Divisionals are 3 to 4 day vacations for me. Funny as it may sound, I look forward to the travel, staying overnight at the track, taking my time to get ready in the morning, the parties, the adventures away from the track.

It's the same with all forms of sports, "money ruins it" Football, Baseball, Basketball, Nascar, NHRA ect. you name it they all beg corporate america to pony up $ then all of the sudden it's way out of control. Then when corporate america falters it all comes down like a house of cards, it's easy to see the sky as the limit when you're using someone else's money.Look at what a pro athlete makes it's ridiculous, then they pass the cost of this "new millionaire" on to the very people the sport was designed to entertain, sound familiar? The old saying "money is the root of all evil" never was more appropriate than now. You can't blame the entire mess on any one entity the teams, owners they all played a role in it, this is like any other form of entertainment when all the glitz and glamour is gone all that will remain is the roots of the sport. Joe

Maybe someone should suggest NHRA's Top Management talk with NASCAR's top management or send NHRA the info below from NASCAR. Seems to me that NASCAR is doing all they can to help the fan and keep sponsors. I read recently where NASCAR also met with their sponsors while attending the PRI show and modified their contracts to "REDUCE" the sponsorship dollars. This in an attempt to keep the sponsors involved with NASCAR and the race teams during the tight economic times.
DARLINGTON, S.C. -- Darlington Raceway is reducing ticket prices on nearly 9,000 seats for the 2009 Southern 500. All seats in Rows 3-14 in the Colvin Grandstand will now be $35, a $10 discount off the original price. "We are celebrating a historic milestone in 2009 with the 60th season of racing at Darlington Raceway and we want to make sure that our fans can be here for this special event," track president Chris Browning said. "We recognize that economic times are tough for everyone right now and want to do our part to help reduce the cost of attending an event at Darlington Raceway." Since moving to Mother's Day weekend in 2005, Darlington Raceway has sold out four consecutive Cup Series events. To purchase tickets, contact the track ticket office at 843-395-8802. |

I got a buddy that goes to Gainesville every year and does the Top Eliminator Club thing. They raised the price on that, too, and he and a bunch of friends aren't going for the first time in years.

Does anybody have any current membership numbers for the NHRA?
$5.00 more per member translates to quite a bit of money for them I believe. |
