Also the HP on the 290-390 engines have been reduced by a whopping 20 hp. I also know that the 68-69 combos had AFB carb and the others I think were motorcraft. Many years ago when I raced a 69 390 AMX it ran ok with a AFB but it would fly with a 780 Holley.

If you saw an AMC with a 780, had to be an IHRA car.

It is a well known fact that dealers were replacing the Motorcraft carbs with Holley's. My college roomate had either a 70 or 71 AMX that was having issues with the carb; the dealer replaced it with a Holley.
