Had a great time at Richmond.
But there were two races going on. NASCAR and ProAm..! NASCAR got tons of air time on the TV. Motels were filled to the gills. Restaurants were full of racers, crew and people working the event. Ate at Olive Garden where several impressionable people who were attending the NASCAR race were at the bar eating. We got to talking and told them I was racing at the IHRA ProAm. That actually triggered a lot of nice questions. Nice to think that they at-first-thought I was a famous Funny Car Driver. Told them I ran Stock . Which raised a few more questions and kind-a-sort-a got them to understand I ran a more modest class. But they did not know the race was going on but seemed genuinely interested. Did see some locals which were hanging outside the fences trying to get a good look. Again the majority of the spectators were us and what family that came. My point was that none of the local stations mentioned the IHRA ProAm. It would seem an advantage if Richmond Dragway and IHRA Marketing Department sent an announcement to the Local stations we were alive and a local activity to attend. This is done with many other local community events. Otherwise had a good time despite catching a good cold and heavy dose pollen ingestion. Hope this idea helps. D |
