What a great start for the 2009 Div 3 LODRS season! Beautiful weather, although a little breezy, made for a fantastic weekend of NHRA Sportsman racing.
Stock had 102 cars on the ladder while S/S had 91. Not bad considering some of the southern cars that usually come to the Indy season opener went to the LODRS meet at Memphis. And oh yes the let’s not forget the bad economy. Stock saw the #1 qualifier Marty Buth in his Q/SA T-Bird run 1.47 under and of course pass a mandatory teardown. Rene Garza led the S/S qualifying with his SS/PA ’55 Chevy. One of the S/S highlights was the 8.78 record set by Paul Adams in his ’64 Thunderbolt running SS/A. Since I do fuel check in Div 3, I have the pleasure of seeing the smiling faces of the Stock and S/S winners as they come off the scales after the final round. This weekend was especially gratifying since I got to congratulate local racers from my hometown Louisville area.
