For those of us who remember,I believe back in 1971 NHRA drastically
changed the rules for stock eliminator. Basically all the stock eliminator cars were mandated to go to superstock.Stock eliminator was now a clean sheet of paper, with very few modifications allowed. No slicks or headers.Factory cam shafts only.It was pure stock with open exhausts. Now I believe NHRA was fed up giving all the stock guys all their little requests for so many years that the cars running stock were far ,far away from anything resembling a stock vehicle. I remember asking the Div 1 tech director why the drastic change and he said there were so few differences between stock and super stock that they felt it best to combine the classes and make stock more like its namesake. I think we need to look at this again. How many differences are there between the stock and super stock classes! ed |
