OK, I'll tell you why. Back in the beginning of FWD the Chrysler 2.2 motors were all .430 lift which was about .050 more than the GM or Ford motors had and allowed the Chrysler's to dominate. It was decided in order to make the GM and Ford cars competitive they would just allow all FWD combos to have a .430 lift or stock lift, whatever was larger. I know the Caddy I ran all those yeas was .390 stock and it allowed us to have a .430 lift cam made by Crane. They latter decided to apply the same cam rule to the trucks.
