Default 5.0 litre conversion questions

I have a guy who want's convert his old F-150 truck to a 5.0 litre mustang motor. Year of the motor is a 88 that we believe is pre mass air flow . My question is if there is someone who makes a kit to convert the engine electrical to simplify or is it better to just use the original harness and eliminate what's not needed ? Cost is a concern here that is the reason for this question. We also have been hearing that the next year up is a mass air flow sensor and is a much better option for drivability and usage and guys putting the mass air flow on the earlier year model ? thanks in advance for any help.
