Default Comp Cams short travel lifter question

Has anyone used Comp Cams short travel hydraulic lifters? Can they be used as is, or do they need modification?
They appear to have more plunger travel than a Sherman type lifter.
My concern is I have a COPO customer that I ran his engine on the Dyno with these lifters w/ .010 preload (as per comp) and it lost a lash cap.
No one from Comp can seem to tell me how much plunger travel these things have. Reason for concern, any open valve spring pressure while sitting causes plunger to collapse until oil pressure comes up, leaving substantial lash.
Thanks- T.G.
