That can happen to Stock Eliminator by a simple Rule change.

On interesting observation...!
When the open Spring/Duration rule became legal.
Cars got faster, needed more safety equipment, certifications, $$$$
Required more qualified Tech Inspectors.
Insurance rates when up.
Some tracks convert to 1/8 mile.
All tracks upgraded facilities to be safer, a good thing actually.
Winnings and Contingencies dropped.
New Technologies follow.
Fewer Qualified Tech Inspectors.
New rules, HP changes, new cars
Fewer Racers setting National Records.
Sanction Drag Racing Bodies go out of business or OTW.

Class Racing is like herding cats.
Management of details to put on a great show is an art and science.
