Pete was hard on the motors but that's what it took to run the numbers. If I remember correctly, he left the line a little over 11 grand, might have even been close to twelve. Hell, I was in the car while he was checking the timing and it zinged to almost 10,000 on that big Moroso tach. I had Fresh underwear after that.

The tattle tail on his tach was up around 11000 every time I looked at it. Hard to stand by the starting line and watch some of those guys make a pass without grinning like a fool. Very cool.

Ed,

Seems like when I think of Pete's Vette, I also think of Bear's bug and Billy Mansell. I really miss those days. Hopefully you have seen the Houston Points meet video on youtube as well as video from Eastex Dragstrip.

Guys, every time any one mention modified I think of Paul Mercure. When ever I bring the subject with him I see that look on his face and he start talking about modified and the stories are awsome,,,Luke

Jeff,

How about holding the car in the water and/or pushing the car back and forth while the driver was doing the burnout!!!

I've ruined several shirts, holding cars in the burnout. LOL Here's a couple of photos I took in 1974 at the old Ringgold, Georgia track called "Drag City". These were both modified cars, I don't recall the Camaro driver's name, but check out the two guys holding the rear of the car, lost in the smoke. The second photo is Wayne Barker's B/Gas Nova. This is the same Wayne & Stanley Barker that had the Pro Mod Monte Carlo SS named "Super Toy" in the late eighties and early nineties.
