From the qualifying it looks like the NHRA has had no affect on the Stock Eliminator entries at the Indy divisional. This is from comparing the 2008 Friday afternoon qualifying numbers.

Wonder why NHRA does what they do to us. Because we (including mysefl) are all SHEEP

It is now 77 degrees and gorgeous, although very windy. Lucky for us it is mostly a tail wind. There were 72 cars in the first qualifying round of Super Stock, including a new red CobraJet driven by Rock Haas. The air isn't actually all that great for the cars, so we aren't running as fast as we would like.

I did a quick calculation of how much NHRA took in in entry fees, it was $13,500 (90 @ $150.00) in stock alone not counting crew members. It's totally absurd that they take in that much money and only pay $1000. to win. I can understand the racers up in that part of the country because it's the first race of the season up there and the racers are chopping at the bit to race. Good luck to all the racers, but like mannymen said, they treat us like this because they can and will.

I don't get it

$150.00 entry fee for a $1000 to win payout. Please tell me what the infatuation is having to run 7-8 rounds for $1000? Don't say fun which makes no sense. You can have the same fun at a weekly bracket race against much better competition and it will cost you a lot less money.

I haven't gone to a divisional race in quite a while but when I did is was for two reasons.

It is fun to drive a fast car down the strip.

Seeing and visiting with racers from other regions.

I have never raced for the prize money, if money was important I wouldn't be racing.

James ....I agree with you on that...I race because I love it... A couple of racers and I had an interesting conversation a few years back....bench racing about who would still show up if the prize money was next to nothing and did it for the love of the cars and the sport. Interesting names came up.

Mom was right though..we do it mainly for the sport.

I am one of the first to complain about too much entry fee at NHRA races and not enough payout but in the end, you know what??? Who cares???

If you don't like the deal they offer, stay home. If you want to race against some really nice guys who love the sport, then you should go racing, end of story.

I have raced for 30 years and always mention the payouts and when I owned a track I thought it was the most important thing....I could not have been more wrong. It is about the EXPERIENCE, NOT THE CASH!

No matter what you win, it isn't that important. It is THE WIN, that you remember.

90 in Stock and the Super Classes look loaded.

I think Top Dragster was about 7.32 bump after only one session and lot of blower cars not making full runs.....yet. I would predict a 7.0 Top Dragster bump.

You should have been here, great weather so far.
