AHFS rules don't say anything about weight. They say you go 1.40 under the sea level index you get 3.25% HP period. If you are dumb enough to run your car light and go 1.40 under then you probably deserve a bigger hit than that. Hensen didn't weigh, no fuel check, and no tear down to verify legal motor. He got 15 HP the following Monday. Sorenson should get the same and a vacation for altering weight after the run before the scales. They are not novice racers and know better than to do what they did. Agree 110% I thought Hensen's deal was bad, not because I didnt think it needed to get hit but because he didnt complete the run by weighing and passing fuel check! Run should have been thrown out! Suspended? My logic or common sense tells me that in order to complete a run and get credit for that run you need to at the very least pass weight and fuel. This should not have to be spelled out in the rule book. Anything else is up to NHRA as to what they may want to inspect |

I don't have any opinions...I wasn't there and its none of my business...
What I can offer to the discussion is that in Comp, when one hits their index permanent - win or lose - one gets weighed, fuel checked, and pumped. A permanent and immediate HP hit in Stock or SS would seem, at least to me, to be the same thing as a permanent index adjustment in Comp. Therefore, simple Vulcan logic would dictate... I will add that I cannot find anything in the rulebook that states one can't bail weight out before the scales. That said, I don't see where it says one can't add weight either. It just says "under no circumstances may a competitor reject scaling his or her vehicle or fuel check." |

I also have no business in commenting on the topic, but I wanted to add my opinion regarding the end of Dan's post..
NHRA's rulebook is in need of a serious facelift. In 2009, it should reflect the sign of the times, including the mighty advancements made by all competitors in Drag Racing today. An example of a well written and thorough rulebook would be the current USGA rulebook for Golf. It covers every angle imaginable to create the most fair and level playing field possible. It does not, however, include crude sketches of valve grind details and driver harnesses from 1968, or whenever that was first done. It would be nice to see a completely new "book" from NHRA. There are too many gray areas that result in situations where no one is a winner.

I dont care one way or another as I dont run this combo. But you guys now wonder why NHRA and IHRA love the 90 classes and Top Dragster/Top Sportsman. As a former track operator I can tell you this is nothing but fuel on a candle. Why have a fire when we can burn a candle. Think about that one. I know you guys are pissed, BUT NOONE HAS OFFICIALLY SAID IF HE DRAINED THE WATER TO BE LIGHT OR NOT.
Dan I know of a past comp world champ and current engine builder that would put his driving suit in the tow vehicle and drain the water to keep from getting a perm. hit years ago. This is nothing new it just got attention now. Herb Jr |
