Had a nearly identical problem this past weekend (although on a Dominator). Did three things, and it went away -- unfortunately not sure which one was the solution. What I did: a) put in somewhat bigger idle air bleeds, b) put in bigger accelerator pump squirters, and c) asked the driver to roll into it rather than stomp it. Problem solved.

If it is a 3 circuit Dominator take out the intermediate bleeds and try it. It may surprise you. If it helps I can point you to a cure.

As far as the original post, make sure you check the cap, rotor, wires, etc... other things can cause your issue. Excessive plug gaps can put a high load on the ignition system especially with the newer Digital ignitions. I melted an HEI cap center terminal with a Digital 7.
