Bummer to hear/read this Tom, because Vic's a great guy...I'm thus concerned that the only fuel he had was that in his racer cars tank? I certainly can relate if so, because without an enclosed trailer to keep your fuel cooler (and out of the sunlight), it's harder to transfer fuel that'll stay fuel check legal...especially since I believe his truck has no camper-shell on it???

Vic failed fuel check. He had two new cans of C-12 with him but neither can passed. While we were sitting around the pits Thursday (not qualifying), he tried to have tested but no one available to check, so therefore, first qualifier DQ with no other runs to fix problem before class. On way to first round of class, he had "turbo" problems and parked the buick and informed NHRA he was broke. Terry Lacy also had problems so there was no U/SA run off.
The sad thing about this is Vic hauled the buick all the way from California and only got 1 qualifying run, had an issue with the car and got to drive all the way home for his efforts. Had we been able to run on Thursday he could have fixed these problems (not the only one with issues that might have been fixed before class). When we said good bye to Vic and Lori, he had a smile on his face and said he'd had a good time. Man that shows a lot of class! |

I talked to Lori earlier today, to find out that thanks to their having family out that way to visit, that it wasn't a total loss of time and money...although it still is a bummer (I.M.H.O.)
![]() I too wish that he could've gotten another chance to correct his first run, because it's the pits that they logged over 4000 miles (round trip) to include a race that truly wasn't such for them.... ![]()

Vic IS a "class act." And, the guy can drive...
He won Stock Eliminator at the '84 Winternationals driving Len Schneider's C/SA '69 Mustang 428 CJ. Len had built a new GT/BA Thunderbird, and was busy driving it. He asked Vic to drive the 'stang. Even though Vic had never even sat in the Mustang before, he said "yes."... and won the race!!! LOL! Sorry to hear he had problems at Topeka.
