The rule is first OR worst.
That's why a red light gets trumped by a center line crossover or hitting of an outer wall (or crossing an outer line like E-Town). Pretty sure that it wouldn't be a big change for Compulink to program into the system. Could be interesting. Unk Last edited by BobUnkefer; 09-21-2009 at 01:15 PM. |

I like it. Level the playing field a little more. Isn't that what bracket racing was intended to do anyway? I know there is plenty of heads up stuff too, but I think only the fast guys will be complaining. Not trying to piss anyone off, but just because you spend more money, you shouldn't get an advantage.

You "no change " guys are looking at this as a fast car vs slow car thing. This would apply any time there is a difference in dial no matter how small. Could well be 2 fast cars with so little difference in the dial you can hardly see it on the tree.

BSA, it doesn't change ANYTHING, until after both cars have launched, and their reaction times have been examined by the computer, which takes a micro-second. THEN, the lane with the worse infraction get the red light and the win light comes on in the opposite lane. How does this change ANYTHING, much less, "EVERYTHING?" The red-lighting car still loses. First off, it's vary rarely that the faster car goes red, and even if he does, it might be a smaller amount than if the first car goes red, so, the faster car wins, anyway. As someone else pointed out, this is not necssarily about an M/SA car running an A/SA car; it works just as well if that M/SA car is running a W/SA car... but in reverse; the M/SA car is no longer the last car to leave. It offers an advantage to NO ONE! The "traditional" FIRST RED LIGHT LOSES system came about in the way that it did, because they didn't have the capability of assessing the two leaves, instantly, and awarding the win to the one with the less infraction in, 1963. So, we got 35+ years of this lopsided system that favors the second car to leave. That is no longer the case. There's no logical reason to favor one car over another, now. The technology exists to implement this system. When they started "breakouts," it was the same deal; first car to breakout lost. They fixed that a long time ago. Way past time to fix this, IMHO. But, since it won't make NHRA a plugged-nickle, it probably won't ever happen.

This has been beaten to death a couple of times...the pro and cons are allready out there on this and other boards...well maybe it will change this time.. but my stand is NO to more changes..of any kind...just been to many of those the last 5-6 years..when you start a project nowdays you simply dont know if you "fit in" somewhere when your ready! If one redlights(first) the race is over and the other lane is the winner(if nothing else occurs)..a moment in dragracing that has been there forever..in headsup-races it's a given..can only work so...also been the same in handicap-classes for that time..but now we want to make this type of racing even more complex?If this come true the next thing will be getting rid of headsup races in eliminations...i am sure.. p.s. In my last race i lost on a first red to a worst red...thats life...but it would be hard to get a fair reading of fast/slow car "dual reds" for any statistics since a "red" in the other lane will screw you up some..well lets see what happens..
