Approximately 2.7 million Americans served in the war zone; 300,000 were wounded and approximately 75,000 permanently disabled. Officially there are still 1,870 Americans unaccounted for from SE Asia. Approximately 1200 of these are listed as missing (MIA's, POW's, and others).
And to my 58,215 Brothers and Sisters who never returned from Viet Nam, God Bless You All. Last edited by SStockDart; 11-11-2009 at 12:16 PM. |

Appleby's is offering a free specified meal to ALL past and current military today during business hours.I just came back from one in E.Brunswick NJ.Lots of WW II/Korea vets present.I shoed my DD 214 and draft card (what's that?) for proof.Real nice of Appleby's to do that.
I salute all past and present military and civilian contractors who kept/keep us strong.

Thank you to all that have served and are serving in our armed forces. They fought for our families, our faith and all our freedoms. God Bless each and every veteran today and always.

Where the use of poppies on Veteran's Day came from:
In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved, and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. — Lt.-Col. John McCrae (1872 - 1918)
