Paul, that's a lack of line pressure rise. If you'll get the pressure regulator spring and those two valves I told you about, that will fix a lot of that. Get the two biggest valves TCI makes, you can pick them up cheap at Jeg's or Summit. A transmission parts house will have a Superior valve body kit. Outside of that, you'll need a pan gasket, a filter, some Vaseline, and some fluid. You do not even have to drop the valve body. Everything you need to work on is behind a snap ring in the pump.
If you have a Holley carburetor, you may want to pick up the piece they make to go on it to improve the geometry for the cable.

Guys....the carb is a 4779 Holley. TV cable, as stated, is a Lokar. Brackets are homegrown. Sounds like we're on to something here... "I'm a roast...baste me." - Dennis Miller, in the film, Joe Dirt.

The TV cable geometry is critical. The lever needs to pull the cable 1.375 " , from 0 to WOT . That is the first step in setting up a new transmission. You should be able to set the cable by resetting the adjuster, then opening the carburator to WOT, and getting at least 1 click out of the adjuster. The lower mph shift points are controlled by the Valve body in conjunction with the large governor weights. The lighter the weight the more delayed the upshift point. Small steps are better.
