Ken,
I am all for factory participation in Stock and S/S; takes me back to the days of the 421 Tempests, 406 Fords, and Z-11 Chevys (which were never legal Super Stockers, but exciting cars, nevertheless.) We have been down the path of why these cars (the 2008 CJ's) were not given a reasonable factor by NHRA to begin with, so I won't belabor the point, now. But for me, the blatant disregard by NHRA for the individuals who have put the requisite blood, sweat, tears, expertise, and MONEY into "traditional" SS/A and SS/AA cars, cars that have acquired reasonable horsepower factors over years of test and tunes, dyno runs and unimiginable time and effort in R & D, was unconscionable. The absurd 425 HP factor was a slap in the face to everyone who seriously was attempting to campaign any other type of car in that class (yourself, included.) In my opinion. your only "crime" was condoning NHRA's reckless apathy when it came to setting up anything resembeling a level playing field for these newcomers, as regards HP factors. You seemed to think the end justified the means in this case. And, you may be right, but the graphic results of NHRA's action will best be demonstrated when you see one of these 4-valve, supercharged, intercooled, no-v.i.n. "stockers" in the other lane for class. Your sportsmanship is to be admired; I'm not sure I'd take this farce by NHRA as well as you have, but if you're going to be driving one (a CJ), I guess it goes down a lot easier, huh??? LOL! I stand by my guns; let the punishment fit the crime..... ![]()

Bill,
If life has taught me one thing, life is not fair. Racing goes hand in hand with things that are not fair. You expect a fair playing field, I just expect to play. If I am out run so what, I'm healthy and have warm place to live, food in my stomach. Racing is just something to do for fun. I do not get worked up at what's fair and what's not in racing, when it stops being fun, I will move on. Your passion is to be commended, but you take it to seriously. You need to find what's good in the sport, like the friends you race with and try not to let something you have no control over ruin you day. How many times has a odd ball combo or under factored car put you on the trailer? If I had to race one at every race, I may not be happy, but its not the case. You can keep on telling us all that's wrong with this sport, me I am having fun. Hell I do not need the CJ's to beat up on me, John Shaul does it on a regular basis. How about Daniels Hemi and Caro Dodge SS/BM. Not the same class, but they do run about the same. Old and new, pretty cool. |

I like the multi-class deal where three classes are combined into one for the purpose of Class eliminations. Of course some will think this is a terrible idea, but that's OK, everyone is entitled to an opinion. The bright side is that it would (for the most part) ensure that there are multiple cars running for Class (i.e., actual racing!).
I know, I KNOW, it's not your fault if no one shows up (I've singled for Class many times), but Herbie Null was right in that no sponsor wants to pay out for multiple single-Class wins. Plus, how can you stick your chest out and feel good about winning if you didn't beat anyone? It's not the fault of a single-Class car racer, but that doesn't mean a problem doesn't exist. I'd go as far as to try to combine stick and autos for Class runnoffs. It seemed that in Top Stock and Jr. Stock that if a combo was good that it didn't matter what transmission was in the car. The autos out 60-foot the sticks and the stick run better mph. Every three classes could be combined, however, make it so if you don't want to move your car, you don't have to. Evan

Where were you guys when I was getting blasted for these type of suggestions? Some claimed NO ONE wants any changes.... Sorry it can be improved, reinvented or what ever you want to call it.
I would like to See RAY PAQUET and TONY DEPILLO again and leave room for Dallas Kelly and His Re Newed T- Bolt versus the winner...or Paul Adams. |
