Terry, you don't have to be an NHRA member to race combo's at either BG or Ohio Valley. Personally I am not going to spend any money with NHRA at National events. I am going to run 3 or 4 points races, the 3 National opens, and as many combo races as I can fit in.

Greg,
I'm thinking about not even running the points meets. I know the drives not bad for us here in the Louisville area but, I'm just really tired of the BS and I hate to keep giving them my money when it doesn't seem they really want us around. |

Friendship, comraderie, prestige, to race within a given set of rules and someone to govern them, and last but most importantly Safety!
It also gives me and opportunity to race against people I have admired and watched since i was a wee lil man. Mike Boyles, Donny Moore, Mark Young, Jim Reynolds, etc. etc., along with the legends that are crew chiefs now we get to see....Sonny Robbins, Herb McCandless, Steve Taylor, I could go on and on. How does this sport survive without people wanting to be a part of it? It doesn't, these guys and gals, unfortunately won't be around forever and one day the kids are gonna have legends too....Let's not forget why we got into this in the first place...BECAUSE WE LOVE IT! Certainly not for the money. gettin down from the box now. sorry for being lenghty |

Michael, I'm sorry if I exposed the real truth about you. LOL
Marc, Your reasons to compete in the big show reflect my own for the most part. Speaking for myself, I can only compete with those folks in a bracket format. They have to much experience in the fast part of racing for me! I like to do the "Nationals" side of racing because I am a fan also. And most of the time the nicest equitment in drag racing is on site. The other thing is, that I would like to win the Wally/Ironman (which I have not). That would put me about as close to all my drag racing heroes as I could want. I want to say that I feel bad for the folks that know how to go fast. They have spent a large part of their life and have sacrificed lots of time, and lots of money. But to win the big Wally/Ironman, they must bracket race with a very slight chance of a heads-up advantage for themselves. Real drag racing has no bracket racing component! (my opinion). Bracket racing is the only way I can race against the real drag racers ! Wade Mahaffey |

I do because they give me a place to race other than brackets.
