Hey Jared; being a SuperStock racer what is your take on the Mustangs that are running in ss/aa & ss/ba? After looking at what Rock Haas was running last year and then looking at what they did this year with the new index, shows that there was/is surely sandbagging going on.

I don't know how much of it was sandbagging and how much of it was sorting out a brand new combination. Rock's car is real fast though. 8.9's in a D car is incredible.

What I DO know is that, similar to Stock, the "old" combo's won't be able to hang with the new Mustangs in SS/AA or SS/BA. The rumor flying around not too long ago was that Ford Engineers claimed those cars make 1000 hp. I've since heard they make more than that. Based on the performance of PB Candies' new Super Cobra Jet in Belle Rose, I have no doubt they'll be wicked fast.

The best Race Hemi motors are approaching 1000 horsepower now, but that's after 40+ years of development. I don't think the new CJ's have even't scratched the surface of their performance potential. Considering that it's currently rated @ 500 hp (same as my Belvedere), I expect them to be running mid 8's before long. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they're as quick or quicker than Daniels' Dart at SS/AA weight. No doubt they'll need to be factored, but I don't think they're as far out of line as the CJ combo's in Stock. The "new" motors already have a lot of the advantages that an SS motor would have over a Stocker anyway.

Can someone please get back to the point and explain how there was a "free" time trial in the middle of what is supposed to be a national event? I have seen impromptu "free" runs for the purpose of Class Eliminations at Open events, and I remember a no-time wheelie contest at Lebanon Valley LODRS one year, but how do you get a free run, at a national after qualifying has been completed?

I'm not trying to stir the pot, I actually want to know what guidelines that falls under. That is the real issue, regardless of how fast Jeff went. Under what guidelines is it appropriate to offer a free time run?

And/or, is that different that running a race-within-a-race at any event? I assume the CIC race doesn't count towards AHFS?

Pat?

Evan

I think this question was resolved many posts ago. Supposedly, nhra only counts qualifying and elimination runs for the ahfs. Bonus runs, no matter the name, do not count.

Evan, it was obviously Pat's call to make. He made the decision in the best interest of the racers to Start eliminations Sat afternoon. He felt it was fair to all racers for them to get a time shot. End of story. Pat looks out for his racers first, and I think it was the right thing to do. It had no effect on anyone's qualifying position, and everyone had the opportunity to make a hit. A few people went very fast, its now up to NHRA whether to count those runs or not.

Talking Re: Hosepower on monday?

in my earlier post i failed to mention what a great thing i think it is that jeff nailed this combo... he (like my buddy bob shaw) found a great combo and spent his money to build it and shazaam it is a huge success...

no one deserves it more than jeff, he is a great guy and has done more for sportsman racing than most will ever even think about. it is a shame the CIC race wasnt held since the caddy was in the garage

jack mccarthy

hey it coulda been a prick with a 10.70 h/sa car... instead its my cooler is your cooler jeff!

I tell you I certainly don't blame Jeff for building one. I would build one in a heart beat (I'm not as caught up in brand competition as some.) but I would have to dig into my retirement acount to do it, which would cause me to also need a lawyer. One old lady from Tulsa would be divorcing my tail.

Jeff, it looks like one very nice piece, and I can't wait to see it in Houston. May be getting a real good look at the rear during class.

I really like the new SCJs, but same deal.

Thank you for the laugh today! I've had a stressful day at work and reading this just lightened my mood.
