tim if 128 CJ & DP (it may happen in 2011) show up then 40 of them would get ousted by class winners ... right ?
just making a point... wally always wanted EVERY class to be represnted in the eliminator... therefore the rule was "field will be comprised of the class winners and then filled to (64) 128 with the fastest qaulifiers against thier index not winning thier respective class." worked for 35 years jack

How about class winners plus fastest qualifiers with no breakout first to the finish line for class and qualifying. That alone would speed up factoring. No bagging, you lift and your gone. They could put the pinks crew in charge of qualifying. They can spot a bagger a 1/4 mile away.

Not only am I one of the 122 votes (and I would vote the same now as I did 4yrs ago), but I also think the combo should go away, and all single class entrants should get Wally's for running .5 under the index, like they used to not so long ago. My .02

Not long before that all a single had to do was show up and make a pass to win class. If they didn't run the index they didn't make the ladder with a full field.

Whether they do it at Indy or one of the Sportsnationals events, there should be a race where class winners and quickest runners-up should make the field (regardless if they can run the index). There is no reason why every event has the same venue. Promote it well as the "Class Racers' Event" and you could build a following. Bogus HP factors kill the interest and incentive to be involved if performance against the index is the only measure. Quickest against the index is another erosion of performance based racing.
Also, we have enough "all run" national events that don't mean anything special. Indy did not get its allure by itself; racers talk it up as something special and racers can make that happen for another race, too. |
