Don't know if it's been posted before--when I lived in Roswell N.M. a friend had a '69 Falcon 429SCJ-4-spd. car. He said he ordered it locally with the usual deletes, rubber mat & bench seat. He claims he was told Ford had this stuffed in their order books way in the back as a "lightweight" version of a Torino for those that wanted to race that body style but didn't want all the extras that added weight & bring it down in class. I think it was something like D/S & ran pretty well, but was one rattlely SOB.
Another car I know existed that was REALLY weird was from Randall AMC (home of the 401 Gremlin) was a 401 PACER! ![]() ![]() Tom Iverson, the guy responsible at Ranadll AMC for installing 401in the Gremlin told me they actually had several requests for them. Although they were a tight fit a few (he couldn't remember how many) were built but they were so butt-ugly they never caught on. He said he did hear a rumor a few factory 360 Pacers were built. |

Max-Wedge,
Did any of the 1962 413 Max-wedge wagons come through with a HC 13.5-1 420HP engine? Did any of the 62' cars come through with some type of a light-weight package? Paul |

I dont know about the 62 wagons. The one thing I have never been able to prove or not prove was I had heard that the ORIGINAL 13.5 comp. 420 HP 62 Plymouth 2 door Savoys (no Furys or Dodges) were stamped from a thinner gauge metal (not acid dipped). The 410 HP versions were heavier and had the regular thickness metal bodies it seems. I never had the chance to use a micrometer on one to see if there was a difference. I have met a couple of owners with what was supposed to be original 420 HP Savoys (now running brackets with 440's) and thier cars were much lighter on the scales (approx 150 pounds) than some of the 318/383 cars and these were not gutted bracket cars.

Paul,
There were supposedly no '62 wagons, Dodge or Plymouth, built with HC or LC 413s at the factory, according to the D. Davis book. That's not to say one or two didn't slip out the back door. Dave |

Jim R and X-Tech Man,
You gentleman know your Mopar stuff. Someday, I've got to check out (2) old junkyards where a bunch of old Mopars are resting. All 62' thru 64' cars. Start looking under the hood. X-Tech on the 62's. I wonder if any of those cars went through 'Chrysler Chemical Engineering'? Those .038" steel fenders, doors, hood and deck lids had 'mucho steel.' PC |
