I could tag the car in colorado as a home built and get plates but I would probably have to put mufflers on it. I wish you a lot of luck with that! I can't wait till some "stupid rich kid" buys one, brings it home and tries to tag it. That should be a good lawsuit.

Neither do the DP's but it would be easy to go to a junk yard, find a total, Get the VIN plate and title it as reconstructed. However the problem comes in if you wreck it. The car was never tested for safety or EPA standards. If someone finds out you could end up paying for the rest of your life.

It could be done....look at all of the "Kit CARs" and glass bodied (home built) street rods running around with assigned vins from the DMV. They are not emmisions tested or have air bags much less 5 MPH bumpers, etc. It could be the same type of registration and street rod tags assigned to them.

As X-Tech pointed out, home built and kit cars have their VIN assigned by the state. It couldn't be titled as a Ford product because they did not assign a VIN. In Colorado you need receipts for the parts and have to pass a visual inspection they then assign a VIN and attach it to the vehicle. Floyd, there a stiff penalty for transfering a VIN plate it would not be worth prison time. If you have to sign an agreement not to title it when you purchase from Ford then the original purchaser could not do this. |

I do not know if all states are the same, but the 2010 CJ Mustangs do have a serial number and do get titled here in South Carolina.
