Are you saying throwing the blinder down after launch gave Jeggie an advantage on the tree? That is what I meant by 'non advantageous'. I agree, a blinder that isn't permanently mounted is "against the rules" but you can't compare it to having a cam too big which does give a performance advantage (so be it a little one). The best I can compare having a blinder that's not permanently attached is to compare it to forgetting to put your window net up on a run and I bet if one of your friends did that you wouldn't make a big deal of it. An official would give you a warning to put the net up next time... Anyway, like some said here... let's put this to rest and remember why we do this.... for the fun and friendly competition. If we saw someone leaving off the top yellow in super stock; that would be cause for an uproar, not this. Scuba Steve,,, thanks for the props bud. This kind of stuff (people making something out of nothing) reminds me why I go bracket racing more often. Had a blast this weekend at Mikes race! Peter Biondo S/Pro 1136 SS1136 Stock 1136 |

I think this forum was created to talk about the positive aspects of this sport. A place for racer's to post topics about what was going on around NHRA and IHRA Class Racing. A select few have turned this forum into something very negative with very little positive discussion. Some people on here have turned this thread into a " Jeg Coughlin" bashing session. And for what reason? He made a mistake. I'm sure everyone on here has made a mistake at some point. It is really great to see Jeg racing in the stock eliminator category. His racing in stock will also bring more exposure to the class because of it. Many on here I'm sure will disagree with me.....because they have nothing positive to say about anyone at any time. Keith brought up a good point. Sanctioning bodies aren't destroying Stock/Super Stock racing.....the racers are. Why would someone young want to get involved with these classes? After reading a few threads on here they would probobly lose interest very fast due to the negativity and "conspiracy theories" of some. Like Peter said, discussions like these are a reminder of why I go bracket racing more.

I have seen a lot of nutty threads on message boards, and this one has to be right at the top.

One thing that has not been mentioned is Jeggie shifting the transmission to "safe neutral" after finishing the run. On those type of shifters, reverse/neutral are on the same detent. I have the same shifter that he has. To go into reverse on my transmission, you have to engage the trans brake to back up. I am not saying he has or uses one, just making a point. Dyno

I've been burned by this stuff and I hate to see others get burned by it also. I'm nutty 'cause I care.

Maybe Jeggie just accomplished what he set out to do------gain an advantage by getting into your heads by way of ESPN. Great manipulation of the media. LOL

I figured out the blinder deal. The rule said it has to be removable with tools. Isn't the hand the first known tool to man?
Mine are now removable with hand tools ![]()

Come on Pete, you know as well as I do that throwing a blinder in the seat after the car has left wouldn't give you any advantage on the tree. Its a matter of what is a rule violation and what isn't. Too many rules not adhered to because of lack of enforcement is what has dilluted Stock and SS to what it is now. Whoever wrote the rule about permenant attachment of blinders must have thought it was somewhat important to include it in the rule book. If it is important enough to put it in writing then it is important enough to be enforced.
