Bill, I would like to make one change to your suggestion....... throttle stops themself to be OK.... it's the timers that are the center of all the hub-bub... The t/s can be controled by high gear, or a manual button. With the stops you'll still have some fine tuning ability. But all the high mph would be history.

In my case, I'm 158 to 160. and everyone is chasing me..............boy, my neck gets sore. lol

heck , Rick I'm running 165 and half the time I'm being chased......... and yea my neck is also getting sore too and so is my wallet LOL

When we first started everyone just used a bolt on the throttle to slow it them down and we all got pretty good at adjusting them and balast to "hit the number" then some super gas racer came out with an in line cylinder powered by the high gear circuit of his trans and then came the CO2 and the timers and the big motors soon followed now dart blocks and Big Chief heads are becoming the norm.

My sg car runs between 165 and 170 . I think its foolish , but, I like to chase better, so i play along. So many cars are going over 160 now that there is less and less advantage anyway. IMHO ,if we all went 135 instead, it would make more sense ? I would love to run a $5000 motor instead of a $25000 motor , same money to win with less expense, sounds good to me. Im sure someone is thinking, its more fun to go faster,I personally get no more thrill out of going 170 than 130 after many passes at both speeds. The only intrest i have is the win lite coming on in my lane.

Billy Leber said it best.....I have been around Super racing since the beginning and all that has happened is it has gotten way more expensive. And also become more dangerous due to the speed. We went 9.90 at 135-138 and the racing was very close. Side by side within a car length usually every run. Now everyone has to keep up with the big speed guys or your out there like a duck.........trying to judge the stripe.

In S/G today 165-170 is what most of the "players" are running

In S/C 175 to 185 and I routinely see people step up in power and end up in the winners circle.....

It is similar in Super ET bracket racing or maybe they should rename it fast dragster racing.......'cause doorcars are generally out after a few rounds....

I personally would like to see some sort of change but I am not sure exactly what would work.

I do like to watch T/D and if I had the HP I'd run it.......

Dial the car right and there is no need to look over until the 1000 ft . Leber is right, but just make do with what you have and spend time making it work.If it's time for a change spend it on your driving. Slow cars still turn on win lights.

Great mind think a like and... we want the same thing. I really enjoy T/D fun to watch and a lot more enjoyable at the to end. Just remove the timers and the motors will follow. S/G and S/C class have great cars, great paint and lots of chrome evrything for spectators to enjoy.CR

Why is it the fast guys are always trying to move the index faster??? Is it because these guys can't win? You never see Langdon, Edwards, Richardson, or any of the other "hitters" ever complaining about the class index....they are too busy winning. If you want to go fast, step up to top dragster or top sportsman. As far making understandable for the spectator you are dreaming! The whole idea of a drag racer going too fast is what they don't understand, it doesn't matter what the index is...they don't understand any of the breakout classes, whether its stock, super stock or top dragster.....then you have the comp guys who lift at 1000' ft. and coast....come on, be real, the only thing that makes sense in drag racing is the first one there wins....that's the way it is in the movies, on the street and has always been understood by the average person. "Fortunately" we have these handicap classes otherwise I would not be able to afford to go racing in the "pure" format.

I do agree with the MPH limit for classes....many of these cars are runing way faster than they are certified for....I agree it would keep the cost down and help people at least "feel" more competitive. I happen to be one that can win in S/C at 148....but I do also believe that the faster car has some advantage having the race in front of them. But again, if I am "on" they have to be too....carrying numbers is only going to send them out the back door sooner! Which I personally happen to like!!!!

And to those that know me.....the new 572 is not so I can run "fast" it's so I can run 8.90.....got into the "98+ soup" at Columbus and couldn't run the number.....not going to happen again....I hope.

See ya all at the Nationals!!! stop by if your close....

No. And I don't think it's the racers that care at all. Making the indexes faster cuts down the amount of time on the throttle stop. And throttle stop time is apparently what fans don't like. So if the index was closer to what most cars actually can run, theoretically the racing would look better to fans. Personally, it doesn't matter to me. I've run 5.40 1/8th mile no electronics, 8.50 1/4 mile no electronics, and 9.90 SuperGas.

I tell everyone that while they may not like watching SuperGas, for me it's the biggest adrenaline rush of any format.

I also think it's funny that people complain about going slow on the stop. Do they realize we are still accelerating harder on the stop than stockers are going all out?
