How did the name throttle stop come about. To me throttle go would be more accurate. "Throttle stop" does not sound like they should be used in the same sentence. Throttle Stop is called that because it is a replacement for a bolt underneath the pedal that prevented you from opening the throttle beyond a specific point -- it stopped the throttle. But then they went from the bolt to a device that moved the throttle to a specific position for a specific amount of time.

It's not a Trans "break", it is a Trans Brake. It is a way of braking (stopping/holding) the transmission. Even that is a misnomer, as it isn't really a brake, it's just a way to engage both first and reverse simultaneously. But it has the effect of a brake.
