The most reliable is the tool steel, because, simply put, they don't break, where any ceramic lifter can break, or even shatter. If you're going to run a cast iron core cam, DO NOT use coated lifters. If you're going to run a steel billet cam, then you can run coated lifters. The cam needs to be fully de-burred, and if possible, nitrided.
