NHRA "introduced" bracket racing at national events back in 1980 when ET division champs from all over the country were invited to Ontario, CA for the World Finals. Tina Gayle was a Miss Winston that year and went on to star in C.H.I.P.S soon afterwards. (Also was a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader at some point.) The ET World Championship was a one-shot deal until they re-introduced it many years later and have been crowning world bracket champs since then. IHRA has been doing it for a while too as well as having had bracket classes at many national and Nitro Jam events over the years.

race day at the Gators, we are lucky enough to be in rd 3. It's now 40 out there, bracket cars where called up, we go after SG. Hopefully we win another round this morning.

An argument could be made for the view that bracket racing was "introduced" with the advent of the electronic tree and handicapped eliminator categories. The first time I saw it in use was in early 1964.

PS - Dilcher was very likely still in elementary school at that point. There is no truth to the rumor that I was one of his teachers.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Dilcher was only in elementary school for a few short years then moved right on to college and beer drinking where he began a long and storied career. In beer drinking that is.

Well we are out in Rd 3 of SS, Rich thought he had put it back into first after the burnout but he didnt, so we move on to Belle Rose.
Looks real interesting in SS as the Arnie Jr will face Rick Baehr in next round which will be a great race, both deadly bracket racers. Merrill Schrimscher in his beautiful nova takes on D1 ace Norm Hall and Carpenter will try to stop the terminator.

In Stock how about that Chris Howe's package in Rd 4, wow.He has the bye. Strick has Fletch, that will be a good match up and a GREAT D1 match up, Joe Santangelo against Bubba Linke.

Can Bubba come out of this event with a win to make his southern trip a good one, we will see later on today.
