Not many high dollar races out west. And there's nothing like winning a national event.

That's what it's all about isn't, Art? The gravy train has come to an end. No longer can you just show up and collect the easy participation money (as Bernie calls it.)

When was the last time you had a heads-up race in eliminations?

Toby. they could go back to the way they used to run. Class winners only If you didn't win class you became a spectator or went home. In 1979 Indy there were 5 cars in B/SA 3 of them had us covered By a bunch (the mid motored sports cars were flying). We got the right breaks and went home the following Thurday. So don't tell me about heads up crap
There are a lot of guys that work to hard on their cars and not enough time driving them. But thats their choice. If these guys quit it makes it a lot harder for you, wheter you want to believe it or not.
I feel only about 20% of the racers at a national event are really capable of winning the whole thing. Sure some get lucky but not very often. Get rid of half of the 80% and it will take it's toll on you. Very few easy runs.

You are a bracket racer that drives a stocker, there is nothing wrong with that. But if everyone had the same game plan how would you work the bottom of the ladder?

Charlie,

This may be the time dig one of those roof racks out of storage...just to check for any aerodynamic advantage it might offer. But remember to change it to a Ford part number.

Art,

My primary goal in qualifying is to avoid a first round heads-up race (as it is with many people who qualify in the bottom half of the field.) I really don't care who I have to run first round as long as I don't have a heads-up race. Of course, I would prefer not to run the Biondo's, Fletcher, Edmond, Zane, Faul etc.. But it is much better to run them than having to run a race where I have virtually zero chance of winning.

If everybody was lifting like me, I would qualify at the top so I'd get the first round bye.

I have always believed the a win on Sunday is far more important than a class win on Friday. That being said, there are a bunch of racers out there who charish their class trophy more than their next breath. Next they will be taking that away and giving out a photocopied achievement award.

Don't ya just love all these enhancements??
I love 'em so much, that it was worth it for me to travel 3k miles (round trip), to offer support to the westbound sanctioning body who's doesn't offer such enhancements. The only good I see in this new class racing format, is the practice with racing in nearly regular racing conditions, so as to envision what a regular race could be like. I'm looking forward even more so now to Father's Day Weekend, and Salt Lake City!
