Guys don't get me wrong, I really hope this race is successful. I won't be there because I had hand surgery 1 1/2 weeks ago. I am planning on going to the race in Virginia in October. My concern is that the gimmicks are going to hurt car count enough to make it not so successful and the the company line is we tried and no one supported us. There are a lot of Stock and Super Stock racers within a 5 or 6 hour drive from Maryland. In an e-mail I told Scooter that i thought he could have 70-80 stockers and 60-70 super stockers without the buybacks. Are the buy backs and random pairings going to keep people away? I think they will, but we won't know until race weekend.

One of the main reasons I switched to Stock was to get away from the Buy backs and electronics. I live no where close to this race but I would not support any class race that had buy backs. With the purse they have and the entry fee what it is all they need is 46 cars to make the payout. You would sure think that for $5000 to win you could get more than 46 cars to show up.

IHRA S/SS is Bracket racing. You just have to tow further and pay more to win less than your backyard bracket race. They hire a couple of guys to weigh you and check your fuel so it seems like its more than a footbrake race, but its not. This race is the exception to the rule as far as payout goes, but it isn't going to change the way IHRA views us. Its a 2 class bracket race to them, footbrake and handbrake. So, if you have a good footbrake or handbrake car, this looks like a good race if your in the area.

I dont think anyone who isnt coming to MIR for this race for one reason or the other will be missed. Its your choice and still a free country....I think.

Novadude,
You and your post could be the poster child of why drag racing died. Only need 46 cars to pay the purse. Don't you guys realize there are more expense involved than just paying the purse. You sounded just like a typical saturday night bracket racer with that comment. Chip Johnson |

In my mind drag racing is two cars go down and one comes back. |
