I don't know if you guys realize this, but the white two topper of Jim Lovallo is now The Stealy Perf. car.. It went to Joe Kenney from Jim, who put a 350/300 in it ,then to Joe Santangelo in about 1980, who then sold it to Steely Jerry.

Let's not forget this one, for it's uniqueness, if nothing else:

When you mention SS Vette,it always reminds me of the candy red Vette of the Stealy family. Won a lot at the Mie Highs. Also love the beautiful new Vette of Doug Engles.

I was pitted nex to Muny Haddad....at Maple Grove at the event he wrecked his Corvette......They were wrestling with something in the rear axle area at the same time I was changing a broken convetrer...
On the next run their car got up and over the guradrail..... Lots of issues with the half shafts and joints... I have a recollection of Bernie Agaman saying at one point he was told a solid rear axle would be acceptable.......but it was not once he had the car.....not sure if he actually built the car with one and had to change it.....it's just a memory of a conversation with Bernie....We were friends back then....

I think the Haddad guys had a spool with the independent rear when a half shaft,U joint, or stub axle broke sending them into the guard rail. NHRA later outlawed spools with swing axles unless a car weighed UNDER 1800 pounds. Im not sure if that rule is still in the rule book today.Thats why they finally allowed solid rears in Vettes. There is at least ONE Corvette stocker running now that is using a spool with the swing axle instead of a posi that I know of. He's on borrowed time. Hope it dosent break anything or he will be into the guard rail also. Last edited by X-TECH MAN; 08-04-2011 at 09:22 AM. |
