..................................OR!!...........i t might be because most who would complain are those that have put in their time and entry fees supporting the Summit Series, and their local tracks throughout the whole season. Just to earn points weekend and week out, in order to even qualify for the Race of Champions. They have to sit through rainouts, hot weather, breakdowns etc. some have to travel large distance, take time off from work, sacrifice weekends, repair cars, all in order to make the next point race, cause if you miss one, its hard to make it back up. Look at Woodburns schedule......It is BRUTAL, and if you make the Race of Champions on that team, YOU are already a winner!!.......These guys for the most part have only ONE National type of event , this is it. They have to earn the right to be there. When they have earned that right, then they have to take time off from work, a lot of them drive over 8 hours one way just to get to Boise. Fuel alone is huge expense. So when they have to race against someone that is just there for his first summit race of the year, hoping to pluck off another trophy, prestige, and some cash, then it does not set well with some of those that put in the time, money and effort to earn their place in that race. There were around 400 entries at that race, and 397 or so worked their tail off all season to earn the privilege of racing there. There was no loophole in the rules at all, that is just BS, The rules are right on Div 6 website, anybody age 6 and up, can read and understand them. I think that the event in Medicine hat was NOT a summit race, and the rules quite clearly state that it has to be a Summit event. Also noticed that the points on Medicine Hats web page have been removed, struck me as unusual. Trouble with that is that he forgot about his general discussion forum, and the points update thread on there. This has stink all over it. Phillip was correct in disagreeing with the DD decision, it was the RIGHT thing to do, its called integrity!

Correct -- The problem is with the DD and the track. That being said, the DD ok'd it, and Mark won. *One* guy did his job! Go finish it at Pomona. You know you've "made it" when you have a rule change named after you. (Even if you have to share it with Jody) ;-)
Not saying right or wrong, but this is nothing compared to the old Long Island Dragway "Dream Team"! LOL You ain't seen nuthin' like that. ![]() It's an issue that's come up in various forms numerous times over the years. Doesn't matter quite so much to me if they opened up or tightened up the rules (although my personal preference would be toward the latter), but for better or worse, at least *enforce* the rules on the books for a given year. I've qualified for multiple tracks or multiple classes in the same Division before (only 1 entry permitted at the time), I've qualified for two different tracks in two different Divisions (that was permitted), and several times I've been not permitted to qualify due to being Top 5 in the World (a rule that was later rescinded). I'm sure the system hasn't been perfect, but I am aware of an instance or two where the minimum race requirement has been enforced on the IHRA side. The rules vary per Division and sanctioning body, however. Sorry for the continuation of the thread hijack... most importantly, congrats on a great driving job, Mark.

For perspective, this isn't a rule that should be "named" for someone, it's similar in other divisions. In Division 2 the track operators have approved for the last several years a two-race minimum. Races have to be part of the track's Summit points series and the points sheet must be filed with the DD by...today actually. Some tracks do keep Summit points as part of their weekend or "big buck" bracket series, but that's what they choose to do to attract racers, it's all legit.
Every year a few questionable cases crop up but most are weeded out at our track operators meeting which happens the Friday afternoon before the Saturday race. |

I think Jody and Mark are overrated. Why there is so much attention given to those two is beyond me.......
![]() I look forward to getting out there and beating up on both of them soon. Seriously, these guys followed the rules as they were presented to them-at the discretion of the Track Manager and Division Director. End of story. Bitching on an Internet Forum will accomplish nothing. If it's just venting, I understand. Contact the powers that be if you have a serious problem with this. As I understand this, no racer lost their spot because of the participation of these "so-called Hitters". ![]() |

First of all, congratulations Mark.
I do agree that the regular every weekend racers should get first dibs at the team. If none of the regular bracket racers choose to participate in "their" finals, what's wrong with the track trying to recruit additional racers to fill the vacancies? Regardless, our division director should make sure the rules are clear. |
