No bait here, just the buzz from SEMA 2011. Also all national events(but INDY) are going to be three days in 2013. I was told this will help save on employee's, hotels, travel costs and the cost to run the event.
NHRA doesn’t make any money on older cars. They could care less about a 1969 camaro in A/SA that gets killed week in and week out by new cars. It cost more time ,money and employee’s to police these older cars and the cheating that going on with them. The newer cars are way easier to police. NHRA wants SS/STK to be easier to control with less bit^hing. And to taking up less time on the track. STK and SS are just filler for the big show. You guys need to wake up. When NHRA goes to this three day format what do you think they’re going to cut out? Extra cars. They want to see 30-40 New CJ’s,DP and camaro’s because that what people in the auto industry are talking about. The old days are over, some of you just can’t seem to get it through you heads. Ed NHRA could care less about what you think, you don't pay the bills. The 2500 plus fans that come to each national event and buy beer, food and t-shirts pay 80 plus % of the bills. And when they leave they don't bitc$ about hp or rules or call CA on monday. They just want to know the date for next years event.

Hummmmmmmmm, This looks like how NHRA plans on increasing the Super Stock car counts.
As far as who will pay the extra insurance $$$$ for the fuel cars they always have the .90 cars. Maybe they would include the S/ST class to make up the difference? Then there is always T/D and T/S. Yes.....Id be VERY worried if I had a 68-69 Camaro, 63-64 Dodge Plymouth, or any other old dinosoaur with (heavens forbid) a carb. |

As a owner of a new car and an old car, one must admit that the old is THE one....a 70 Challenger is cooler than a dragpak...When you open up your garage, which one takes your breath away?....a 70 boss 302 is cooler than any new cobra jet....of course change is the only constant, but with the dynacorn bodies, what is old is new too....The old car cars are just rolling artwork, the new not so much...but I was hoping to compete with my classic challenger at a national event...Can't hang with the new stuff, will not even try, but that is not the point, its supposed to be fun...... For the fans the car show of the classic cars and the new muscle is what they kindoff care to see, and they certainly don't care that the XYZ cars HP is X% light....they just want to see the pretty cars do big wheelies....I can't imagine a national event without the classic z-28.....it would just be wrong.... Class racing is different, its not bracket racing, it just different. BTW Ed is a cool guy, a vet(thank you) and anyone with a Hanoi Jane urinal sticker on his ride is ok with me. Eric

i think if they went to 1980 and newer in stock that they would have a bigger lawsuit on their hands than they did with the Pro Stock Trucks

Probably wouldnt fly.....If your old enough to remember what happened in 1972 to all of the cool Jr. stockers yet there was no law suit. Just a lot of OLD Super stockers. Remember SS/X class ! The Pro Stock trucks didnt have any place to go with their type of racing (heads up) and comp. is still a handicap race the last time I looked. . The old dinasoaur stockers can always run Super Stock. Most are under the S/S index anyway. It remains to be seen as to what happens.

Cutting to 3 days makes sense, but the bigger issue in my view is the points meets. NHRA is expensive. Track owners don't need NHRA to run a Top Dragster or super class deal. If the DDs think the non performance classes are the answer, I think they are going to be surprised. Most of the track owners are better business people than the VPs at Glendora. They know where to trim the fat. Why would you pay through the nose for NHRA to come in when you could payout more money and charge less then they do for a Division race?
Knowing Charley Bob's penchant to stir the pot, I wouldn't hold too tight to the rumours. I would think that a smart call would be to offer a GT stock that would allow older cars to use the newer style engines. It would spur sales and marketing opportunities for the aftermarket and the manufacturers. Racers could compete without having to spend 100k on a turnkey car. I would put a fuel injected Small block in my Nova if we coud do it. Tech already knows how to do this. I think the Marketing dept runs NHRA and they appear to be clueless. We need to spell it out for them. They must have been C students at best...... Quote:
