Gary, you forget that Fontana is on the grounds of a super speedway that won't fail and go away. As long as ISC gets a couple of good races a year the speedway will remain. As long as Auto Club has anything to say about it, the drag strip will remain also. It just might not open back up to open header racing. IMHO.

True that Floyd, and I try to have hope that the drag strip will continue to prosper. However, if they don't allow open header racing again, then another one of the primary reasons I chose to move to this part of the country, will be dashed (and not in a way that will still allow me to satisfy my/our love for our kind of racing). We lose that track, and the third closest track to Phoenix area racers is going to be Bakersfield, and at approx. 525 miles away from here, I can think of a few NHRA tracks that are nearly 800 miles away from Denver that would be quicker to get to from there, than Bakersfield is from Phoenix....this isn't what I foresaw when I planned to move here, back in '06, which is . Thank God for IHRA coming out this way, is all I have to say!

I hope you're right Gary, I'd like to see another venue in our part of the country too.
I can race mine with mufflers if I have to but I'd rather not. I'm 15 minutes from Fontana, 3 hrs from Bakersfield, 3 1/2 hrs from Vegas, 5 hrs from speedworld and 6 something from Firebird.

Come on up and hang with us Floyd....other than your annual appearance at the March Meet. We're racing at the Patch every weekend you know and would love to hang out with you.

If you think Fontana is safe just because it's on the grounds of a super speedway let me hear you say Ontario Motor Speedway!!!!

All drag strips should have a muffler rule or at least a sound decibel limit. We live in a GREEN world, like it or not. The less noise we make the more the tree huggers will look the other way.

Fontana knew they had a sound issue with the neighbors yet the choice was made to race Top Dragster at the Jegs Sports national on Monday because of Sundays rain. The loudest class of all on Monday and several blocks away is a grammer school.
Great planning!!!

Because of that well thought out mistake, we have the only Los Angeles area 1/4 mile drag strip on hold. It has been closed to bracket racing since the beginning of the summer but yet open to "street legals" with mufflers.

I only hope 2012 is a better year for the local racers.

Mark, that was a long time ago. OMS was ahead of the times and it was a shame cause it was one of the nicest facilities ever even to this day. I'm going to come race with you guys next year and take lessons from you on how to cut a light. look for me behind you in the lanes so I can learn. LOL.

I once heard a statement that Ontario Motor Speedway cost $12million to build......but they spent $25 million to tear it down!!! What a great facility that was. I don't know if those numbers are correct but it wouldn't surprise me.

For our team, the mufflers are coming off the shelf so we can enjoy Fontana even if only a few dates per year. With the loss of the divisional in Bakersfield we are going to spend some more on diesel but I'll be danged if we are going to let stupid politics curtail our racing plans......not until they pry the transbrake button out of my cold dead hands!!!! Can I get a hoo rah!!!
