Default Re: .430 Valve lift for everyone?

Easy answer is no.

I have always wondered why the rule was this way. If the rest of us have to work with much less lift why do they get extra lift just for being a truck or FWD?

OK, I'll tell you why. Back in the beginning of FWD the Chrysler 2.2 motors were all .430 lift which was about .050 more than the GM or Ford motors had and allowed the Chrysler's to dominate. It was decided in order to make the GM and Ford cars competitive they would just allow all FWD combos to have a .430 lift or stock lift, whatever was larger. I know the Caddy I ran all those yeas was .390 stock and it allowed us to have a .430 lift cam made by Crane. They latter decided to apply the same cam rule to the trucks. I wasn't involved in that decision. Jim

Jim is correct there. As an addendum , The indexes were so soft, in the beginning, in order to encourage participation, it didn't make sense to try to jerk all the the factory ratings around to get things equal..So, therefore ,the equal lift rule.
I'm not sure on the truck deal, but it probably was a similar situation.
That big ol' Cajun fella would know....

Ok it all seems fair. So to keep with their being fair to all are they going to give me the same 512/512 lift with the 2.085 int and 1.605 ex valves as the 352 Ford. It is the same HP as my 350 255 (280) small block

I seem to recall a large number of years in the 70s that your 350/255 combo was as killer as any new one. Bobby Warren would show up in his Chevelle and never open the hood the whole weekend at Div 2 points meets. What goes around, comes around
