Default Re: Traction Compound

As has been my experience for many years the Local tracks use very little traction compound . if the local tracks use any at all it is for the first 20 feet. When You ask them they say hey our cars hook up that run here all the time which is sort of right but the local cars most of the time don't make enough HP to spin as they are bracket cars and don't care . The national events that I have been to this year they have been using VHT and so far the hook is really great . it seems the new Starter gets it although later on in rounds when they is a schedule to be met the lack of track prep is lacking . All a person has to do is look at the bald spots . it seems the starter personnel can't see the bald spots like we can??? don't forget some cars leave soft 8:90. 9;90 and 10;90 cars . Not sure why the even need to do a Burn out ??? Also the clutch cars can slip the clutch .

I no longer pay for a test session at a track as all they do is take the money and say go run without doing one single thing to prep the track. If the track usings VP it does not work

The class cars need a track that is properly prepped to run and it is not right they have to detune the car for a unsafe track at any event . Everyone knows how to set up the car for a bad and unsafe track but should not have to do this . I laugh at the track when I see them using tools to prep the track that have been used 30 years ago . It is time the track decision makers step up and prep their unsafe track so the cars can get down the track before there are less and less cars running at their track oh wait there is less and less cars now I wonder why ???

You better hope they use VHT and not VP, especially when the track is cool. The VP stuff is marginal when it's hot and doesn't work at all when there is no sun on the track.

VHT ( PJ1 ) is the one to use , it's been the NHRA choice for decades . I sell a great deal of VHT to smaller tracks too . Good track prep requires a lot of work and a lot of knowledge . Most smaller tracks do an excellent job .

I don't think NHRA has been using VHT for decades . I think just recently they changed to VHT (PJ1) from VP

Don ,
you must be too young to know , or like me , too old to remember . VHT has been around a long , long time , and it's been used by every major drag race association for decades .

I know it has i know the owner of the company in scotsdale , but NHRA has or had a contract to use VP until recently , not sure now though as the traction at The Two national events i went to was good and i saw the VHT or PJ! stuff being used at Vegas but there was also of vp barell i am asuming the vp stuff was either for the local track races or left over ?

The contract you're thinking of was for the race fuel , not the traction compound . NHRA has had a long standing relationship with VHT traction compound for national events . Local shows can use whatever they want i think , though many tracks use VHT then too .
