Jenkins would roll over in his grave if he knew there was an automatic in a car with his name on it! Very cool hot rod though!

I hear you, Mike,, but I seem to remember an article in Super Stock & Drag Illustrated many years ago, where team Jenkins had the '69 car up on jackstands, swapping out the stick box and converting to an automatic during a race.. I don't recall if it was Indy or perhaps the World Finals(Dallas?), but something happened that made them do the swap,, so it isn't an unprecedented thing. I'm sure some old timer can set me straight on this.
This new COPO is certainly impressive,, I'm hoping it gets mentioned on the TV coverage, or perhaps a Best Appearing award this weekend.

Danny, this story reminds me of one my dad told me (1969 was ten years before I was born, so I could be wrong--LOL). But the story (assuming it's the same one you are referring to), was Arlen Vanke bombed the SS/CA record in October at Columbus at a race. Grump decided to run SS/C, for the easier Record to run off of, and NHRA told him "No, you have to run the Class you ran all year".

I think I have all that correct, or close, and it may not even be related to the story you referred to.

I don't remember the details, Mike, so you could be correct. The Vanke story sounds pretty cool though,, I'm thinking I've got to make a trip upstairs and go through my old SS&DI boxes and hunt that story down,, wish me luck!

Nope...I'm not getting one. Way to late in the game for me and Merc to get involved with the newer technology. If we were 20 years younger we would have had one immediatly if not sooner!
