Default NHRA Video Policy

NHRA Video Policy
A review of team websites and various websites including You Tube requires NHRA to remind teams of the current policy regarding taking and using video from NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series national and divisional events. The NHRA Rulebook, section 1.9 and 1.10, pages 25-26, cover this and related subjects. To sum it up, shooting video at the track other than for competition/analytical purposes is strictly prohibited.

We understand that teams would like to utilize new technologies to promote teams, drivers, sponsors and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. Therefore, if you wish to shoot video for any use besides competition/analytical purposes, please abide by the following policy:

1) If you want to produce and distribute videos, apply for an access and licensing agreement with NHRA. Visit www.nhra.net/broadcasting for the online application process. The agreement will define what and where teams can shoot, where and when the footage can be posted, and any additional requirements regarding posted footage.

2) No video may be shot or posted of the track and of racing action. The track is defined as anything from the water box through and including the top end.

3) No video shot onsite at a national event may be distributed by any means until after the first air of the day’s racing activity on ESPN2/ESPN2HD. Some exceptions will be considered if the video is strictly human-interest and not competition results related.

We are asking any team currently conducting such activities to immediately begin the access and licensing process. To that end, log on to www.nhra.net/broadcasting and submit what you are currently doing and what you are planning to do, no later than 30 days prior to the event.

In the coming months, NHRA will be redesigning the NHRA You Tube Channel to include team sections, as well as opportunities to link current team sites to the NHRA Channel to increase visibility and views for all teams and NHRA.

We recognize that distribution of video from NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series national and divisional events through multiple outlets is a valuable source of promoting teams, drivers, sponsors and the sport. However, we are confident the teams will understand and abide by the current and new policy moving forward given the rights of NHRA and those rights that have been extended to ESPN.

If they don,t show stock super stock on TV can Tody still post his Video???

Thumbs down Re: NHRA Video Policy

Not until the NHRA re-defines/re-designs their YouTube Channel to allow access to only those videographers who financially contribute to NHRA's Video Fund. There's money to be made here, and that's their bottom-line.

The NHRA Rulebook, section 1.9 and 1.10, pages 25-26, which I am unable to post here because it is "copyrighted" material, is a MUST READ for everyone who attends an NHRA event. There is a lot more than just taking photographs (yes, that's prohibited if it's not for personal use only) and video that is being regulated.

Also you must read Section 9-18, on page 38 of the General Regulations to understand the NHRA camera policy.

No different than selling your own T-Shirts at National Events or Points Meets or you sponsor doing Sampling!

Talking Re: NHRA Video Policy

By reading the above post,, it seems NHRA's concern is directed at "teams",, nothing in there about fans in the stands,, spectators or an occasional single, stock eliminator racer filming for his own "personal" use.

I must be missing something here . They ESPN&ESPNHD film/cover the pros very well and the people doing it , all get payed for doing a good job . ESPN2&ESPNHD pays nhra good sums of money for all the rights , of all the footage and then goes after sponcers for commerials to recover those moneys . I understand the business side on this subject . They have nobody covering , or will not pay someone to role the footage of the sportsman classes , fact ! So because of ther lack of desire to cover the sportsman classes nobody can ? Are they telling us they can't find any sponcer$ to cover the sportsman classes ? We were part of that package deal with nhra pro's wright . Sounds like someones not holding up to there side of the deal , in my opionion ! Is it mainly lack of sponcer money to pay the people to run the camara's on the sportsman classes when they run . If so they are doing it wrong ! If someone roles vidio for free they should be happy , who works for free .There needs to be a compromise here . Because there are poeple who wish to watch the footage belive it or not . Do they need a petition ? Case and point , look at all the other sports . Just because you didn't go to an event/game didn't you enjoy watching on ESPN2 at home be it pro , colage or world of outlaws dirt ser. etc . Theres alot of channels with questionable material on TV that get sponcers , come on ESPN2 , I thought you were better than this .

its real sad that events like class eliminations of Indy are not recorded and sold. There are many small production companies all over I'd bet would do the job and sell the videos to recoup some cash and make nhra money. There are so many start up companies who could learn to do their respective jobs better doing this. I am of the opinion NHRA is too lazy to find local companies at national events, even points meets and opens. It could only put more people to work.So sad.
I personally prayed someone filmed class at indy, which seems to have not happened oh, well. I know I'd buy a copy, and if a few thouand were sold, i'd like to think it would earn a profit and pay some salaries for those involved, and help them reach their goal of doing better jobs filming and editing, even distributing. Hello NHRA are you listening, I am a big fan and will buy more product from you, hello, hellooo.........
