Been running E85 for over a year now and had some experience with it. Had some carb problems until I got hooked up with Mark Sullens, he is the best, you can go to his website and get some valuable information on what temp to stage and tuning. E85 does not vaperize till 165 degrees, so you need to be that before you stage. There is alot more to it than just bolting on a E85 converted carb. most agree you don't need to run over 7 pounds of fuel pressure. I buy E85 locally, just be sure and check it with a tester so you know what you are getting. My local station changes content from E85 summer to E75 winter blend. I will buy enough to fill my 55 gallon drum in the summer when they have the true E85.

I live in northern MN and we only have true E85 two months of the year and it ratchets down to E70 through the winter. A friend dynoed his motor and set the carb up in midwinter with winter blend E85 and by the time he got the motor in the car it was early summer and he was way off on his tune and jetting using the E85 sold during the warm weather months. His 540" bbc picked up 40 ft lbs and 25 hp over pump gas. It is a 10 to 1 pump gas motor in a street car. It works fine except the gas tank is alittle small because of the higher fuel consumption.

The experience of those who know E85 say that going from E70 to E85 blend is worth about 2 jets sizes larger, (needs to be a little richer), but it should not make your tune-up "way off" if it was close to begin with. Some setup with E85 and never change jets, as the cooler weather itself cancels out some of the effect. But this is why a tester is very important so you have a starting point to know if it could be the fuel or some other variable if the car begins to not run properly.

Do any of you know anyone that took an Alky carb and modified it for E-85?
I've got a small cu in (316) old Modified engine (short block). I've thought about putting in a bracket car and using E-85. The original heads are gone and the heads I have for it will keep the compression around the 12-1 mark. The carb is a 750 QF alky. Any ideas/suggestions?

How due you manage the E85 corrosiveness? Or is not as bad as some people have perceived.

Methanol is corrosive . E-85 , which is ethanol , is not corrosive. Ive left it in the carb and the rest of the system all winter with no sign of a problem.

Careful with that statement as it made some of my plastic handles on my screwdrivers soft...
For me I run my carb dry after i am done for the day and just before it starts to stall I spray engine stor down the carb

Thinking you should be able to do it as you need to see what there is for emulsion and banjo's/boosters..
