The way it works is this.
If you set a record the backup has to be within 1% or "faster". If you go slower on the backup but it still is faster than the record. That becomes the record.
Here's some examples.
Existing record 9.00 First run 8.49 record set, backup is 8.94. New record is 8.94.
Existing record 13.35 First run 12.81, backup is 13.25. New record is 13.25
The faster run only counts when the runs are within 1% of each other.
The backup is not always the second run, or even the slower run.
You can take this to the bank. On this I know. I've set enough records

One thing I didn't post was that the first run has to be under the existing record. It can't count as a backup if it was over the record.
