I'am in process of building a camaro stocker that my 18 year old daughter that just came out of Jr's. I put a full cage in it and now will put Kirkey aluminum seats in it because she will be safer and i will feel much better watching her go down the track. The cage cost alot more than say a six point but money well spent to us.

Sorry Mark not today. I just want a real answer. I personally don't think the Kirkeys or the plastic seats should be allowed in stock.
The last time I was at Pacific Raceway I happened to walk by the motorcycle guy's all lined up waiting to make runs, There was about 30 of them and almost all of them had a HJC helmet. I wonder what they know that Chad doesn't? Get over it. The seat in Kelly's car is bolted to the roll bar and plated were it mounts to the floor also. There must be a couple thousand of those plastic seat in racecars so let's not start an argument about them. I had a Kirkey in the chassis car but it was not very comfy. If I was worried about our safety I wouldn't be racing, I'm more concerned with all the people towing with their 1/2 pickups. No that's dangerous....

Phil, if you are really attempting at a true clarification, it would suggest e mailing or calling an official at NHRA. I mean, anyone on the forum could have the correct guidance or a better idea, but it won't hold in tech. I think the forum is great to get input, ideas and perhaps even be entertaining (some can't handle that though) If it is a true answer you seek, go to the source. You might not get an answer you like, but at least itis an "official" one. Pat Cvengros is usually prettygood at responding to questions as an NHRA official. Don't get pissed because someone here on the forum didn't tell you what you wanted to hear. Happy Thanksgiving all!

My car is still pure stocker so I won;t be changing my seats my seats are high back buckets that are comfortable and I feel safe in them, might not be I am going to attach back to roll bar though,I feel like if it's attached to bar that it's not going anywhere and if it did I would'nt have to worry about anything any longer.
I think I would like a different seat as example I had 67-69 camaro I don't think I would feel that secure in those seats. I like the look of original seats, but does'nt matter to me seats are'nt going to make car any faster. When you have a stick that's all the therapy you need going through gears Mike Taylor 3601 |

Now that would be something! Although I do find that dumping the clutch is very therapeutic. LOL!

Happy Black Friday to everyone.... I think the bottom line here is that any one who ever thought about the idea of using an aftermarket seat now has the option to do so. I think it is really a matter of personal preference... comfort, etc . I always liked the feel of the aftermarket seat and when you're more comfortable you're more likely to perform better in the drivers seat. One things for sure... If you aren't comfortable in your seat it's harder to cut a consistent RT and harder to drive the finish line. I have driven a stocker that's same as my SSr.. (98 firebird) and I can honestly say that the stock seats vs aftermarket seats in that car are a source of discomfort (butt too low... bolsters too high... head hitting the roll bar..) and effect my ability to be as consistent as I can be in my car. It's not the seats fault per se they would be great for cruising in a street car. But as for having to have all your body parts in the ideal location to make a perfect pass... Start to finish... They fall short. So do what you like.. What suits you... if you drive killer with factory seats stay with them.... as long as they are properly supported etc safety shouldnt be that much of an issue .
We live in the best country in the world. We are blessed to have these cool hobbies to keep us happy.... It's only Nov and I'm havin drag race withdrawals already. One other thing..... I want to thank the classracer community for supporting the voting for my daughters band... They are still in the mix and the voting goes for a few more days. Anyone who hasn't noticed the "sticky" I put up please check it out if you have a minute. Thanks again happy holidays to everyone.

I would not put a Poly seat in a race car; it is the same as bolting a plastic lawn chair in to your race car! Although Teuton requested NHRA to allow bar stools, this is all he was allowed... ![]() ...at least it has a beverage holder!!! ![]() |
