Largest engine available in a 1965 sedan would have been a 350hp, 327 ci.

The owner of the car at the time is on here once in awhile. Maybe he can answer some questions about it. He did say it was a 350/327.

Eddie, do you remember if the L79 motor in a 2 dr. post / 300 sedan fit into 'A' back then?

I owned an original '65 - L79 Malibu SS... White w/ 2-Tone Red Guts... wish I still had it.

Larry, the white '65 300 Deluxe 2 dr sedan pictured was a 327-350hp. It was the first drag car I 'crewed' on in my very early teens. Which consisted of uncorking the Hooker Headers, helping to bolt on the Goodyear Blue Streak cheater slicks, putting some air in the Air Lift air bags (hoses in the trunk) and changing spark plugs.

No need to ask how I discovered how hot steel tube headers got......... -Al
